The Catholic Monarchs chose Granada for their burial because it was where the Reconquista ended, and the chapel was built to hold them. It was finished before the cathedral beside it.
⭐ The marble tombs are the showpiece, but the coffins themselves are in the crypt below, plain lead boxes you can look down at through a grille. The gap between the monument and the reality is the most memorable thing in the building.
The sacristy holds Isabella's collection of Flemish paintings and her crown and sceptre.
Our tip
The crypt is easy to walk past. Go down the steps by the tombs and look.
