Building started in the 16th century, on the site of the city's congregational mosque, and the design changed hands and styles as it went. What resulted is a very tall, very white interior with an unusual circular sanctuary at the east end.
⭐ The scale is the point. After the Alhambra's low, dense, decorated rooms, the cathedral is all height and light, and it was meant to read exactly that way — a statement about who held the city now.
The facade on the Plaza de las Pasiegas is worth standing back from, which the plaza barely lets you do.

Go after the Alhambra, not before. The contrast is the argument the building is making.
